Create an impact poem that captures the hardship and fear faced by most Canadians during the Great Depression.
Your task is twofold: The poetic side involves the use of verse, symbolism and figures of speech to appeal to the reader’s intellect and emotions. The historical fact side involves the inclusion of depression images, issues, personalities, events and terminology. Ideas like “black tuesday” “the bennett buggy”, “riding the rods”, “grasshopper plagues”, and “relief camps” come to mind.
How long should the poem be?
Try to examine at least 10 ideas from the great depression putting them in their historical context. You can do this by organizing ideas into stanzas in your poem.
