On Earth, carbon is essential to life. Where did Earth get its carbon?

Answer: Most of Earth's carbon was inherited directly from the interstellar medium, it is the material that exists in space between stars in a galaxy.

Explanation: All of the carbon and oxygen in all living things are made in the nuclear fusion reactors that we call stars. The early stars are massive and short-lived. They consume hydrogen, helium, and lithium and produce heavier elements.
