It was my cousin's wedding, and preparations were being made for the departure of marriage procession, but suddenly,
Mallory, my recently married cousin, jumped up from the table, where she had been signing the divorce papers. She took Harold's hand, and pulled him up from the couch where he had been sulking, miserable and sad.
She held his cheeks, and looked into his dark brown eyes, normally alight with flame, and kissed his full lips, slowly and passionately. Harold was startled, but a small grin began forming on his face.
Mallory looked down sheepishly and said,
"I know that after all that I've done and said in these five weeks after getting married; you might not want to be with me again. After almost ending our life together, I would understand your confusion and anger. But I remembered the vows we made at our wedding, and the love we have shared in these past weeks."
Mallory looked up at Harold, who was beaming, and she smiled.
"All of the dinners and lunches with friends and family, the movie nights, talking about our future . . . I had forgotten all about that last week, when I made some mistakes and separated us. But now, I want to be with you forever."
Mallory grasped Harold's hands.
"I have learned from my past mistakes, and I want to have children and make new memories with you for as long as I live."
Mallory knelt down with one knee in front of Harold. She took off his ring, and presented it to him on an outstretched hand.
"What do you say to new beginnings?"
Harold put his ring back on, and grabbed her waist, swinging her around the air, until Mallory laughed with glee.
He put her back down, and Mallory put her hands around his neck, and kissed him again, this time joyfully and happily.
Harold grinned. "What do you say to movie night and takeout?"
Mallory laughed. "Have I ever said no?"
