What will happen to a

plant cell if it is placed
in a concentrated sugar
solution? What is this
phenomenon called?

Assuming the plant cell contains less sugar than the surrounding solution, and its membrane and wall are not permeable to the sugar in the solution, water will diffuse out of the cell (osmosis) and the cell will shrivel. More specifically, the net flow of water between the cell and the solution is in the direction going out of the cell.
