Why might you use figurative language

Answer: Using figurative language allows the reader of the story to paint images in their head as to what is happening, as it’s tells a more detailed way of something happening. It’s one of the many elements of storytelling and makes you feel like you are actually experiencing what the character is, thus is creates a better story for you and a more believable one for the character.
