Ratio of butter to flour that is to be used for making pie dough is :-

= (2)/(3) : 1 (3)/(4)

Number of cups of flour I am using = 7 cups of flour

Number of cups of butter I need to use :-

Let x be the quantity of butter needed .

= (2)/(3) : (7)/(4) :: x : 7

= (2)/(3) * 7 = (7)/(4) x

= (14)/(3) = (7)/(4) x

= (7)/(4) x = (14)/(3)

= x = (14)/(3) / (7)/(4)

= x = (14)/(3) * (4)/(7)

= x = (56)/(21)

= x = (8)/(3)

Therefore , this recipe would need :-

(8)/(3) \: or \: 2 (2)/(3)\: cups \: of \: butter \: .
