Answer: 12 7/12

4 (1/3) + 8 (1/4) (Add the whole numbers together)

= 12 [(1/3) + (1/4)] (Find the LCD and multiply the numerators and denominators by the amount that will get you the LCD*)

= 12 [(4+3)/12]

= 12 (7/12)

*LCD = 12

(1/3) · 4 = 4/12

(1/4) · 3 = 3/12
