how do plate tectonics help explain the presence of unique animal species on continents such as australia

Plate tectonics are located under the earth, and move over millions of years, and helped convert the world from Pangea into the seven continents that we now know. We can examine the plate tectonics under Australia and can understand what kinds of animals traveled over to Australia from other regions during the presence of the supercontinent known as Pangea.

I think my answer is a bit vague, but I hope it helps you better understand. :)
