Indigenous groups who signed treaties because they saw land removal as inevitable were often not granted what protections and ‘suitable land’ the federal govt. had promised them. Some groups, like The Cherokee, were deceived with an illegitimate treaty. Those unable to migrate safely had to leave in what is known as the Trail of Tears.
The Jackson administration played a huge role in this.
