Answer: At 5:00 pm the second train catch up with the first train.

Explanation:

Let t = Time taken by first train.

Time taken by second train = t-2

Speed of train 1 = 45 mph

Speed of train 2 = 55 mph

Since, Distance = speed x time

Then,
45t= 55(t-2)

\Rightarrow\ 45t= 55t-110

\Rightarrow\ 55t-45t=110= \\\\\Rightarrow\ 10t=110\\\\\Rightarrow\ t=11

After 11 hours, time = 8+11 =17(12+5)i.e. 5 : 00 pm.

Hence, At 5:00 pm the second train catch up with the first train.
