Y= mX + C

y = 1/4x + 3

m= gradient= 1/4

The perpendicular gradient should be the negative reciprocal of the gradient we have now.

which is : -1÷(1/4) = - 4

Now for the perpendicular line equation, we have:

y = 1

x= 4

m= -4

y - y1 = m ( x - x1 )

y - 1 = -4 ( x - 4 )

y - 1 = -4x + 16

y +4x = 17
