Answer:

$79.30

Step-by-step explanation:

Initial sales price of scooter = $85.99

Sales tax rate = 8 1/2 or 8.5%

Discount rate = 15%

A 15% discount was given to Dante on the scooter i.e. 15% of selling price was taken off

We then calculate the discount amount : 15/100 × 85.99 = 12.8985

$12.8985 was reduced from the initial sales price= 85.99 - 12.8985 = 73.09

This means that $73.09 is the new sales price for the scooter

Sales tax is a compulsory amount charged by the government over every purchased good by a consumer. It is paid alongside the price for the good

Sales tax is calculated thus: Selling price × Sales tax rate

73.09 × 8.5/100 = 73.09 × 0.085

= 6.21

The Sales tax = $6.21

To calculate the total cost of the scooter = Sales tax + Selling price

6.21 + 73.09 = 79.30

Therefore, the amount in total that will be paid by Dante for the scooter is $79.30
