While on a business trip to Greenville, Chloe treated her co-workers to a meal that cost $60. Chloe knew that when the bill came, she would need to pay Greenville sales tax of 5% and would want to leave a 20% tip on the original $60. Including tax and tip, how much did Chloe's meal cost?

Answer:

$75

Explanation:

Sum of tax and tip (in percent) = 5%+20%

Sum of tax and tip (in percent) = 25%

Original cost of food = $60

Extra amount paid on the food (including tax and tip) = 25% of $60

= 25/100 * 60

= 1500/100

= $15

This means that Chloe paid $15 extra on the original cost of food

Total cost of meal = Original cost + extra amount paid

Total cost of meal = $60 + $15

Total cost of meal = $75

Hence the mean costs $75 (including tax and tip)
