Answer:

The length of the curtain, after adding the new length is 2 ¹/₂₄ yard long.

Explanation:

Given;

initial length of the curtain, L₀ = 1 ¾ yard = ⁷/₄ yard

length of the lace Jan will cut from, L = ⅞ yard

fraction to be cut from the yard, x = ⅓

New length to be added is given by;

L_(new) = (1)/(3) *(7)/(8) = (7)/(24) \ yard

Total length of the curtain, after adding the new length is given by;

L_(total) = L_o + L_(new)\\\\L_(total) = (7)/(4) + (7)/(24) = (42+ 7)/(24) = (49)/(24) = 2(1)/(24)\ yard \ long

Therefore, the length of the curtain, after adding the new length is 2 ¹/₂₄ yard long.
