The Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) testing center currently has six (6) testers who test 68 drivers per day. Each tester can test twelve (12) drivers per day. Testers are complaining about being too busy and the center being understaffed. In order to bring the utilization down to as close to 80% as possible, how many testers should the DMV have

Explanation:

Given that 1 tester can test 12 drivers, that means if 1 tester is 100% efficient, than, he can ckeck 12 drivers.

Let DMV should have n tester, working with close to 80%, to test the total number of drivers.

So, with 80% utilization, n tester can ckeck 80% of 12n driver.

As the total number of driver to be tested per day is 68.

So, 80% of 12n=68


\Rightarrow 0.8* 12n = 68


\Rightarrow n = 68/9.6=7.08

Hence, with utilization of close to 80%, the DMV should have 7 testers to ckeck 68 drivers per day.
