I'm not sure what the question is but an example question could be

"Take 5 away from 3."

For this you would go to three on the number line and then move left five gaps. You would land on -2

another example: "Add 4 to -3."

For this, you would go to -3 on the number line, and then move right 4 times. you would land on 1.
