500
100% - 60% is 200 people
So 40% is 200 people
20% is 100 people and so 100% (full amount) would be 100 x 5 (how do you get from 20 to 100, you multiple by 5 so you do the same to the 100).
Gives you a total of 500

Answer:

Boys: 300 or 60%, girls: 200 or 40%, total number of students: 500 or %100

Explanation:

So basically:

1. We know that 60% is boys and we're trying to figure out the exact amount. We know the other 40% (girls) is a total of 200.

2. First take the 40% and half it so we get 20% in order to do that we have to do the same to the 200 girls and half the number into 100. Now we know 20% is equal to 100 students. Given that information we would multiply the 20% by 3 to get the 60% of boys. Now we would also multiply the 100 by 3 and now we have 300.

3. We now know that we have 300 boys and 200 girls. Add them together for the total of students and you get 500.

I hope this helps:)
