Answer:

18,824.0 miles

Explanation:

1 - Pull apart the problem

After 2 hours he hiked 724 miles

In that same rate for 52 hours he walked
x miles.

THINGS TO UNDERSTAND

Travelling Rate = miles per hour = miles/hour

Same rate means the two are directly proportional.

2 - Solve

Write the proportion

(724)/(2) = (x)/(52)

Get x by itself using properties of equalities

(52)/(1) * (724)/(2) = (x)/(52) *(52)/(1)

On the right side the 52's cancel out leaving just x

On the left side you're left with (724*52)/(1 * 2) or 37,648/2 which simplifies to 18,824.0 miles

Sorry, I just realized this was the harder way, if you want to do this problem the easier way its the 724/2 to get miles per hour and then multiply that into the 52 hours to get the same answer.

Hope this helps,
