Ralph is "thankful to have escaped responsibility for a time." Why do you think that is the case

If you are thankful you are getting out of being responsible for something, why would that be? I can think of two options. (Unless you have multiple choice.)

1) Ralph is responsible for cleaning the house, cooking, babysitting, etc. He isn't allowed to do anything he wants or go out because he has responsibilities. He finally is allowed to do something outside of his responsibilities and is thankful he got away from them.

2) Ralph is always in trouble, or everyone blames him for things that go wrong. He is always responsible for what goes wrong and for what other people do. Then, someone other than himself is held responsible and he is relieved and thankful.
