the slaves had no control over anything like their life or their death. they had to pretty much do as given and didn’t have any options.

the reason why i think it was so important is it was to maintain order. The slaves had no control over themselves, no power, no control over life or death. and were treated badly. basically they need control = power. and power will get you trades, and your own territory/ location.
