Hyperboles are exaggerated statements that are not meant to be taken literally.

  • I am so hungry, I could eat a horse!
  • My dad could run faster than a car!
  • The stack of homework in my room is miles high.

Metaphors are a figure of speech in which two things are compared. Metaphors are like similes without the use of like or as.

  • She has a heart of gold.
  • You have the memory of an elephant.
  • Ramen noodles are just a bowl of happiness.

An Oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines two contradicting terms to create and emphasis.

  • Their was a deafening silence that echoed throughout the room.
  • It seemed that the old lady was growing smaller by the day.
  • The comedy show was horribly funny.
