Given that:

Initial area of square garage = 320ft²

Since the garage is a square, the sides are all equal;

Area of square = s² ; where s = side length

320 = s²

√320 = √s²

17.889 = s

Original length of 1 side of the garage = 17.889 ft

With a 50% increase ;

New area = (100 + 50)% * initial area

New area = 150% * 320

New area = 480ft²

Length of one side of New garage :

480 = s²

√480 = √s²

21.909 = s

% increase in length ;

((New length - old length) / old length) * 100%

((21.909 - 17.889) / 17.889) * 100%
