How can you know if this equation is true? 12+38=410=25 1 2 + 3 8 = 4 10 = 2 5 CLEAR CHECK Because 1+3=4 1 + 3 = 4 and 2+8=10 2 + 8 = 10 , this equation must be true. Because 25<12 2 5 < 1 2 , this equation can not be true. This equation must be true, because when you add fractions the sum is always less than 12 1 2 . Because 38<12 3 8 < 1 2 , this equation must be true.

Given:

The equation is

(1)/(2)+(3)/(8)=(4)/(10)=(2)/(5)

To find:

Whether the given equation is true or not.

Solution:

In addition of two fractions, we can not add numerator and denominator separately. First we need a common denominator, then we add numerators.

We have,

(1)/(2)+(3)/(8)

Taking LCM, we get

(1)/(2)+(3)/(8)=(1* 4+3)/(8)

(1)/(2)+(3)/(8)=(4+3)/(8)

(1)/(2)+(3)/(8)=(7)/(8)\\eq (4)/(10)

So, the given equation is not true.

Therefore, the correct option is B.
