This summer you are working at a local Veterinian Office. The vet asked you to help her design an outdoor rectangular dog kennel that will fit some of their larger patients. Because the vet's office is working on a budget, she does not know the total amount of fencing she will be able to purchase to secure the perimeter of the kennel. However, she does know that to fit some of the patients it must be 6 feet in width. Here is your task, find a formula that allows you and the vet to find the length of the kennel once she has purchased a set amount fencing for the perimeter and you know that the width is 6 feet on both sides. Use the formula for perimeter: \large P=2w+2l

Answer:

L = (1)/(2)P - 6

Explanation:

Given

Width = 6

Required

Determine the length

Perimeter is calculated using:

P = 2W + 2L

Where

P = Perimeter\\W = Width = 6\\L = Length

Substitute 6 for W

P = 2 * 6 + 2L

P = 12 + 2L

Solve for 2L

2L = P - 12

Divide both sides by 2

L = (1)/(2)(P - 12)

Open Bracket

L = (1)/(2)P - (1)/(2) * 12

L = (1)/(2)P - 6
