Add 6y to both sides

2x = 6y + 14

divide both sides by 2

x = (3y + 7)

Substitute this ^ for x in the othe equation

4 (3y + y) - y = 9

distribute the 4

12y + 4y - y = 9

combine like terms

15y = 9

divide both sides by 15

y = 4.6

Now substitute this value for y in the equation we previously substituted .to find the value of x

x = 3 (4.6) + 4.6

x = 13.8 + 4.6

x = 18.4
