It’s important because you have to be willing mold your life around it if you’re devout. So this results in drastically different morals between religions, and major pushback from people who don’t want to be “controlled”.

It isn’t. Whether you believe in this or that, it won’t effect other people as long as you aren’t forcing your religion on others.
