At Mimi's preschool, Friday is pizza day, and all of the 60 students look forward to getting their own slice. Mrs. Cornejo was part way through cutting each of the ten pizzas into 6 slices when she discovered one of the pizzas was completely burnt. She decided to cut the remaining pizzas into seven slices and some into eight slices so there would be enough to go around. How many pizzas might have been cut into six slices? Seven slices? Eight slices?

Answer:

3 pizzas are cut into 6 slices = 18 slices

6 pizzas are cut into 7 slices = 42 slices

18+ 42 = 60 slices

Explanation:

She can cut the pizza into 6,7,8 pieces so

LCM of 6,7,8 = 168

Factors of 6 = 2*3

Factors of 7 = 7*1

Factors of 8 = 2*2*2

Common Factors = 2*3*7*2*2= 8*3*7= 24*7= 168

Now finding

No of pizza with 6 slices = 168/ 8*7= 168/56= 3

If she cuts 3 pizza with 6 shares it would give 18 slices .

We need 60 total slices so 60-18 = 42

If we divide 42 by 7 we will get 6 pizza which we are left with as out of ten 1 is burned and 3 have been divided into 6 slices.

We do not need any 8 slices pizza.
