Answer: x - 2y = -3

=============================================

Work Shown:

y = (1/2)x + 3/2

2y = x + 3 .... multiply every term by the LCD 2

2y-x = 3 ... subtract x from both sides

-x+2y = 3

x-2y = -3 ... multiply both sides by -1

The last step is done so that the x coefficient is positive

The equation is in the form Ax+By = C with

  • A = 1
  • B = -2
  • C = -3

You could have your answer as -x+2y = 3, since that is also in standard form. But many math textbooks make A > 0.
