The slope is one because the rise over run from point (-1,0) to (0,1) is 1/1, and 1/1 is equal to 1. This means in the form y=mx + b the slope would be put in for m. y= 1x + 1. The plus one is because the line crosses the y axis at y = 1. When you are writing the equation technically you do not need to write it as y= 1x +1 you can just do y = x + 1 because there is only 1 x.
