Whole numbers that go one after another are called consecutive numbers. If you add 4 consecutive numbers, you get the smallest of these numbers multiplied by 5. What is this smallest number?

Explanation:

Let the 4 consecutive numbers be :

n,n+1,n+2,n+3 where n is the smallest number

Adding up the 4 consecutive numbers, we get :

n+n+1+n+2+n+3 = 4n+6

ATQ,

4n+6 = 5n

Taking like terms together,

6=5n-4n

⇒ n = 6

So, the smallest number be 6.
