You need to rent a truck for one day to move to a new house. UHAUL charges $60 a day plus $0.99 per mile. To rent the same sized truck from Penske will

cost $350 a day with no mileage charge. At how many miles will both companies have the same total cost?

Answer:

At 292.93 miles will both companies have the same total cost

Explanation:

60 + 0.99x = 350

in words: the initial $60 plus the 0.99 per mile equals the $350 to see the max number for x miles

get x alone:

60 - 60 + 0.99x = 350 - 60 subtract 60 from both sides

0.99x / 0.99 = 290 / 0.99 divided both side by 0.99

x = 290 / 0.99

x is defined as the number of miles on the UHAUL truck
