5. Two blueberry farms are similar in shape. The ratio of the side lengths of

the farms is 4:5, and the smaller farm has a perimeter of 360 yards. The
cost to dig a trench is $0.75 per yard. What is the cost to dig a trench
around the larger blueberry farm?

4:5=360:x 360/4=90 90+360=450 check 360/450=0.8 and 4/5=0.8

4:5=360:450

larger farm perimeter is 450 yards so dig a trench 0.75 per yard

so 450 * 0.75 = $337.5

Answer: $337.50

Explanation:

The farms are sized with a ratio of 4:5 which means that the perimeter of the larger farm can be found by subtracting the perimeter of the smaller farm from that of the total of both farms which can be found by the following formula where it is assumed to be x.

4/(4+5) * x = 360 yards

4x = 360 * 9

x = (360 * 9) / 4

x = 810 yards

Size of larger farm = 810 - 360 = 450 yards

If it costs $0.75 to dig a trench per yard, the total cost for the larger farm is;

= 450 * 0.75

= $337.50
