Answer:

y = (1/-4)x - 1

Explanation:

given,

coordinates :

(4, -2) ----- ( 4= x1, -2=y1)

and

(-4, 0) ------(-4= x2, 0=y2)

=> y = mx + b ----(whereby m = slope, x remains same and b = y-intercept or a point on y-axis)

=> since slope = rise/run => (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

=> ( 0 - (-2) ) / ( -4 - 4 )

=> ( 0 + 2 ) / ( -8 ) ------- (negative multiply by negative is postive. Therefore, - × -2 = +2)

=> 2 / -8

=> 1 / -4 -----(simplified after numerator and denominator got divided by 2)

If we refer the graph, we will see that y-intercept or the b is -1.

Therfore, since we have:

slope (m) = 1/-4

y-intercept (b) = -1

x = x----(x remains x only)

=> y = mx + b

substituting the values, we get,

=> y = (1/-4)x - 1
