Why does lizabeth regret destroying the marigolds?

In an effort to expel the rage and resentment she feels towards her life, Lizabeth kills the marigolds. "Lizabeth wishes that" I too could weep and be comforted "after she hears her father weeping. With no source of comfort, she continues to lash out to try to show her rage.
