... He has kept among us, in times of peace. Standing Armies without the Consent

of our legislatures.
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.
...For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble
terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince
whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the
ruler of a free people.
What is the point of this

Answer: The colonists of America are listing their grievances (problems) with King George III. All of these grievances mark the act of a power hungry tyrant, who should not be the ruler of Americans. The point of this section is to give legitimate reasons to Great Britain on why America is becoming independent, as well as to put patriotism in the colonists to aid in any fight, whether mental or physical, for independence.
