Answer:

1) Travelers were inspired by dreams of gold and rich farmlands, but they were also motivated by difficult economic times in the east and diseases like yellow fever and malaria that were decimating the Midwest around 1837.

2) A pioneer is a person who is among the first to explore or settle a new country or area.

3) A global cultural icon. Stand in awe at the Shrine of Texas Liberty and explore the 1836 battlefield where heroes fell

Explanation for answer 3:

The Battle of the Alamo was fought between the Republic of Texas and Mexico from February 23, 1836, to March 6, 1836. It took place at a fort in San Antonio, Texas called the Alamo. The Mexicans won the battle, killing all of the Texan soldiers inside the fort.
