The artist used transparent watercolors over graphite pencil and used a technique called rewetting, blotting and scraping atop moderately textured woven paper to create an image of an old man floating, lost in nature but also very much aware of his surroundings. I think he chose to use this technique because of the color vibrancy that watercolors creates and how easy it is to blend colors together like what you would find in nature.
