Explanation:

Plug

${x}^(2) + 1$

for x.

$( {x}^(2) + 1) {}^(2) + 1$

Note that

$(a + b) {}^(2) = 2ab$

So we have

${x}^(4) + 2 {x}^(2) + 2$
