What are they?

• The term Pilgrim is commonly used for those who boarded and rode the Mayflower to the New World.

• The term Puritan is used for those who were a member of the religious reform, Puritanism. Hence the name, Puritan!

How are they similar?

• Both Pilgrims and Puritans wanted religious freedoms. They wanted to worship their god without being charged with a crime. Both Puritans and Pilgrims came from strict areas. You have to believe in their god and worship their god in the way they wanted you to.

How are they different?

• Puritans remained apart of their country. They wanted a reformation(which they got), however they remained faithful to the church.
• Pilgrims did not stay apart of their country. They wanted a fresh new start. The pilgrims were separatists. They had no more patience for their country and started over!

Conclusion:

• The Pilgrims and Puritans were very similar. They wanted the exact same thing. However, they went about it in two completely different ways.
