Answer:

median - 9

mean - 9.3

Explanation:

Median:

the median is found by putting the numbers in least to greatest (or even greatest to least) order

5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14

then cross off the numbers going from both right and left (such as)

5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14

so by crossing off both 5 and 14, then 6 and 12

keep doing that until you reach two numbers left or one by itself

(if it is two numbers, in which this case it is not, you would add the two numbers together then divide the sum by two)

5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14

the number by itself is nine (9), therefore that is the median.

Mean:

to find the mean, you must add all the numbers together and then divide by the number of values (number of numbers)

5 + 6 + 8 + 9 + 11 + 12 + 14 = 65

the number of values is 7

therefore you divide 65 by 7

65/7 = 9.3

since the actual value is 9.28...

rounding to the tenth place means you round up (2 is the tenth place)

and you round up since 8
\geq 5 (all numbers greater than or equal to 5 mean you round up, and numbers less than 5 mean your number stays the same, therefore you round down.)

the mean is 9.3

hope this helps:)
