x + 2y = 6 \: \: ...(i)\\ \\ x + y = 5 \: \: ...(ii)

from eq (ii)

x + y = 5 \\ \\ x = 5 - y \: \: ...(iii)

putting the value of x in eq (i)

x + 2y = 6 \\ \\ (5 - y) + 2y = 6 \\ \\ 5 - y + 2y = 6 \\ \\ 5 + y = 6 \\ \\ y = 6 - 5 \\ \\ y = 1.

so , putting the value of y in eq (iii)

x = 5 - y \\ \\ x = 5 - 1 \\ \\ x = 4.

The value of x = 4 and y = 1 .

Answer :

  • Value of x is 4
  • Value of y is 1

Step-by-step Step-by-step explanation :

Here we have been provided with two equations and we have to solve them by elimination method and calculate the value of x and y.

  • x + 2y = 6 (Equation No 1)
  • x + y = 5 (Equation No 2)

From Equation No 2 :

>> x + y = 5

>> x = 5 - y

In Equation No 1 :

Substituting the value of x which we got above as (5 - y) here.

>> x + 2y = 6

>> (5 - y) + 2y = 6

>> 5 - y + 2y = 6

>> 5 + y = 6

>> y = 6 - 5

>> y = 1

Finding out value of x :

>> x = 5 - y

>> x = 5 - 1

>> x = 4
