The average price of gasoline, r = $ 2.10/ gallon

Cost of meal for one person, c = $ 45/ day

Total number of persons, n = 2 (Mr. and Mrs. Wagner)

(a) The average of van = 75 mpg.

So, to cover 75 miles, the amount of gasoline required = 1 gallon

By using the elementary method, the amount of gasoline required to cover 1 mile = 1/75 gallons.

So, the amount of gasoline required to cover 3000 miles

= (1/75)x 3000= 40 gallons.

Now, cost for gasoline = 40 x 2.10=$84

Hence, the total cost of the gas for the trip is $84.
