Answer:

I think it's because he (grim) was said that to grim because of what she said was so obvious and since gram's name isn't mabel he said that to just let her know how obvious what she said was. (I'm sorry if this is wrong I read the book last year would've been able to help you more if I was back in 6th grade reading the book)
