A rectangle has its diagonal length increased from 5 cm to 25 cm. The new rectangle is similar to the original one. The original perimeter was 14 cm. What is the measure of the new perimeter?

Explanation:

I thought putting up a picture would be easier than explaining it all. The picture is how you would write out the problem.

The original rectangle's measures were 5cm and 14cm. The new rectangles measures are 25 cm and X (We don't know yet.) So write it out. 5cm is to 14cm as 25cm is to X.

5cm/14cm = 25cm/X

Cross multiply. (The arrows I drew. Multiply diagonally.)

You should get

350 = 5X

We need to get X by itself, so divide both sides by 5.

5X/5 leaves X left

350/5 leaves 70

70 = X
