2x + y = 10 substitute y= x - 5 into that first equation

2x+(x-5)=10

2x+x-5=10

3x - 5 = 10

3x = 10 + 5

3x = 15


(3x)/(3) = (15)/(3)

x=5

substitute the x into either the first or second equation

2(5) +y=10

10 + y = 10

y= 10 - 10

y = 0

therefore

x = 5 and y= 0
