When conducting researcg, the first step is to look to sources (books, articles, websites, etc) for information. In those sources you will find quotations (sayings) from writers. As a researcher, you have to decide which quotations to use in your paper.

to paraphrase you state the ideas of other writers in your own words. While you havent copied word-for-word you still need to credit your source

to use citations means that you list the information such as the author and title of the work so that another person can look up the material

when you use a summary you briefly state in your own words the information about a large body of work such as a speech, an editorial, or a chapter of a book
