The majority of Northerners wanted slavery to be illegal and for slaves to be freed in the south. However, historians have agreed that in the way the north supported slavery by purchasing the cotton grown to used in their factories. What do you think about the statement? Do you agree or disagree and why?

Agree:

Northerners who purchased goods, such as cotton, from the south did inadvertently support slavery. They made the company more profitable which made the demand for slavery increase.
