Given

6x - 9 = a(3x + 2)

If the coefficient of the x- term on the right side is 6 then the equation will have no solution, that is if a = 2, then

6x - 9 = 2(3x + 2) = 6x + 4 ( add 9 to both sides )

6x = 6x + 13 ( subtract 6x from both sides )

0 = 13 ← not possible

Thus equation has no solution when a = 2
