Most colonies were formed because people came to the New World seeking freedom of religion. Most colonists held jobs that included, farming, building, etc. The Colonies were different because of the region they were located in. The northern colonies were more into fishing while the southern colonies spen their time on the plantations farming cotton and tobacco. The middle colonies grew lots of wheat and were known as the bread basket.
