Juan has 5 times as many dogs as Pedro. Carlos has 1 dog less than Pedro. If the total number of dogs between them is 20, how many dogs does each pet owner have?

Answer:

Jaun has 15

Pedro has 3

Carlos has 1

Explanation:

  • so it needs to equal 20
  • if jaun has 5 times as many dogs as pedro it pedro has to have less than 4
  • Carlos Has 1 Dog Less Than Pedro so that limits it between 2 and 3 because carlos can't have 0 dogs
  • so if pedro has 3 dogs than jaun has 15
  • 5•3=15
  • if pedro has 3 dogs than carlos has 2
  • 3–1=2
  • all three have 20 in total
  • 15+3+2=20
